Pasadena is a golfers paradise. Specifically, there are 5 golf courses in Pasadena, but 57 within a 20 mile radius – for a golfing hobbyist or someone who wants to go pro, that is a lot of opportunities to play. The hardest decisions are which courses to play or which offers the best bang for your buck.
If you already belong to a club, then no doubt you are partial to that one course. You know its slopes and speed and can play it like a pro. But what if you want to challenge yourself and try something new? Many have good ratings, and depending on your level of play, there are many great courses in the area. Roosevelt Golf Course is an executive course that has views of Los Angeles. This is a walking-only course but still moves at a good pace. They have some amenities like a putting green and rental clubs. Roosevelt is known for having a friendly and helpful staff. Even though it is a municipal course, it is well kept and it great for a break during the week.

Monterey Park Golf Course is a public course has a pro shop and a hitting range. It is well maintained and is great for quick play anytime. At Monterey, they also have rates for residents, seniors, and all-day. Like Roosevelt, they have good ratings on many sites, so we included them here.

Even though this is a 9 hole range, this club has a lot of amenities. Brea Creek Golf Course has a driving range, chipping and putting greens. Moreover, they have programs for instruction if you are an adult or a junior. Also, Brea Creek can host tournaments. In fact, there are programs for seniors and women. Angeles National Golf Club is one of the busiest public courses we have found. Indeed, this club does it all – great maintenance on the greens, instruction, tournaments, dining, weddings, events, and more. Angeles is rated highly and it is no wonder, the Nicklaus Design group created the course. For this reason, please check the website for prices and tee time availability. Because it is an 18-hole course, carts are required.

Marshall Canyon Golf Course is in the foothills above La Verne, CA. It’s a walkable municipal course with amenities such as game instruction, leagues, a driving range, and tournaments. Of course, this is more of a bare-bones type of club for those who aren’t interested in frills. However, this is a good course to practice more strategy than long drives.
