The Huntington Library, Art Museum & Botanical Gardens is three attractions in one place. Located a few blocks outside Pasadena, this is a must-see on everyone’s list. One hundred and twenty acres of pure enchantment. The hardest decision will be where to start.
The Huntington Library
As a research library, they have volumes spanning hundreds of years. For example, eleven million items from the 11th to the 21st centuries are collected here. Furthermore, the variety of collections is vast. From literary works of Chaucer and Walden to the Gutenberg Bible. There are also have light bulbs from Westinghouse Electric from the 1920s to Bern Dibner in 1965. Right now, Newton’s Principia, the history of mathematics and physics is also on display. Also, the Audubon’s Birds Of America portraying 435 species in life-size format, it is astonishing in its rendering.
Art Gallery
The Huntington Art Gallery focuses on two areas, European & American art. Specifically, European art from the 15th to early 20th century and American from the colonial to present. The works that the Huntington has are quite large, at 42,000. There are designated galleries for specific works of art, American & European are displayed separately.
Types of art are from sculptures to prints to paintings. The styles are varied and the cultures show in the pieces. If you are an appreciative fan of art, the displays that are available will impress. Even more are available online than in the museum, itself. https://huntington.emuseum.com/collections
Botanical Gardens

From the Chinese and Desert Gardens to the Children’s and Herb Gardens, and many in between, there are various types of greenery and plant life to give you a sense of calm and serenity.
On top of all this, there are gardening workshops and demonstrations, lectures, plant sales, and educational programming. Some of the fun events they have planned in the gardens include Garden Talks every 2nd Thursday, Garden Tours, East Asian Garden Lecture series (check the calendar), and the Japanese Teahouse Tours.
