Pasadena, California Hit Hard By COVID-19

Isabelle Ruffing December 30, 2020 Blog, Pasadena, CA california, covid-19, Pasadena

Sadly, Pasadena, California and surrounding cities have been hit hard by surging COVID-19 cases. Hospitals are extremely overwhelmed and some have no choice but to extend their ICU unit. The state has decided to extend its stay-at-home order as the number of available ICU beds in the southern area has reached zero.

Southern California Stay-At-Home Order

The stay-at-home order began in early December, and, according to Pasadena Now, has officially been extended until further notice to help curve the spread of the virus and hopefully relieve hospitals in the region. Government and healthcare professionals are pleading with local residents of LA County, one of the counties that are suffering the most with almost 13,000 new cases as of December 29, 2020, to avoid gatherings with those outside of their immediate family.

Many are worried that, with the holiday season upon us, we will continue to see rising cases in Pasadena and other cities in the county. It’s sad to say that many who have the virus are not getting the medical care they need as hospitals simply cannot take everyone except those who are deemed as extremely ill. Medical professionals are left with difficult decisions that could mean life or death for some.

Pasadena Travel Ban!

Considering a trip to the Golden State? Think again.

In response to this second wave of COVID-19, the state of California is enforcing strict out-of-state travel bans. Non-essential travel, which excludes travel related to work or school, is not permitted unless visitors quarantine for a minimum of two weeks after they arrive, according to Visit Pasadena.

When it comes to local travel, the state prohibits in-person gatherings and is constantly reminding residents of this mandate as New Year’s approaches. So, virtual gatherings it is! Stay safe this holiday season with virtual visits with family and friends.

What’s Life Like In Pasadena Lately?

Life in Pasadena, California, and in nearby towns throughout Los Angeles County, is very different lately. All businesses have been affected. In-person dining at restaurants is now prohibited, places of worship can only host outdoor events and gatherings, and retail stores can only have 20% capacity. Thousands of businesses have had to shut down including museums, movie theaters, amusement parks, and many more.

What Of Essential Businesses?

Essential businesses that are still operating have had to make adjustments in their normal procedures to help slow the spread of the virus. Window cleaning and pressure washing companies, in particular, are able to stay in business but have had to be flexible in how they provide services.

Many businesses are offering virtual phone estimates to allow for minimal in-person contact between customers and employees. If customers do choose an in-person estimate, several companies are taking additional safety steps and keeping a 12-foot distance while wearing a mask during the entire inspection process.

While thousands of SoCal businesses have been severely affected by the pandemic, exterior home and property maintenance companies are finding ways to carry on and continue to provide exceptional, yet safe, services.

The Vaccine Has Arrived In Rose City!

Yes, the COVID-19 vaccine from both Pfizer and Moderna have arrived in Rose City! It comes as a relief for hospitals that are overflowing with sick patients, such as the Huntington Hospital.

With limited doses, however, cases are expected to continue rising during the holiday and winter season. Residents are still encouraged to stay home and follow social distancing guidelines.
